Tbilisi Sulphur Baths, Tbilisi

Stepping into the Tbilisi Sulphur Baths is like entering a different world. The moment you descend into these subterranean chambers, you're enveloped by warm, steamy air and the distinct aroma of sulphur. The baths, with their domed brick ceilings and tiled walls, have been a part of Tbilisi's culture for centuries. I opted for a private room, which came with its own hot sulphur pool and cold plunge bath. The experience of alternating between the two temperatures was invigorating and deeply relaxing. What really made the visit memorable was the traditional scrub and massage. A local attendant vigorously exfoliated my skin with a rough mitt, followed by a soapy massage that left me feeling utterly rejuvenated. The sulphur water is said to have healing properties, and after my soak, I could believe it - my skin felt softer and my muscles more relaxed than they had in years. The baths are open late, and there's something magical about emerging onto the streets of the Old Town after a long, relaxing soak, feeling refreshed and ready to explore the city's nightlife.
