Acropolis of Rhodes, Dodecanese

Perched atop Monte Smith, the Acropolis of Rhodes offers a breathtaking glimpse into the island's ancient past. As I wandered through the ruins, I was struck by the sheer magnitude of the site. The Temple of Apollo stands as the centerpiece, its remaining columns reaching skyward, a testament to the grandeur of Greek architecture. The restored Stadium is particularly impressive, stretching out before you like a scene from a bygone era. I could almost hear the cheers of ancient spectators echoing through time. The Odeon, a small theater, invites visitors to sit on its stone seats and imagine the performances that once graced its stage. What truly captivated me was the panoramic view of Rhodes town and the azure Aegean Sea beyond. It's a perfect spot for photos, especially as the sun begins to set, casting a golden glow over the ancient stones. While much of the site lies in ruins, it's not hard to envision its former glory. Informative plaques scattered throughout help bring the history to life. I'd recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing water, as there's quite a bit of walking involved. Despite the uphill climb, the Acropolis of Rhodes is an absolute must-visit for history buffs and casual tourists alike.
