Lokrum Island, Dalmatia

Just a short boat ride from Dubrovnik's Old Town, Lokrum Island is a tranquil oasis that feels worlds away from the bustling city. As soon as you step off the ferry, you're enveloped by lush Mediterranean vegetation and the soothing sounds of nature. The island is a protected nature reserve, home to peacocks and rabbits that roam freely. I was captivated by the botanical gardens, filled with exotic plants from around the world. The highlight for me was exploring the ruins of the Benedictine monastery, which date back to the 11th century. Don't miss the replica Iron Throne from Game of Thrones – a nod to the island's role as a filming location. The saltwater lake known as the Dead Sea is perfect for a refreshing dip. I loved finding secluded spots along the rocky coastline for sunbathing and swimming in the crystal-clear Adriatic. The island's highest point offers breathtaking views of Dubrovnik and the surrounding islands. With no cars or overnight stays allowed, Lokrum truly feels like a peaceful escape into nature.
