Upper Town (Gornji Grad), Zagreb

Stepping into Zagreb's Upper Town feels like traveling back in time. As I wandered through its cobblestone streets, I was immediately struck by the charming medieval atmosphere. The area is home to some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the stunning St. Mark's Church with its colorful tiled roof. I loved exploring the quaint shops and cafes tucked away in centuries-old buildings. The Lotrščak Tower offers breathtaking views of the city, and I was lucky enough to hear the famous noon cannon being fired. The Stone Gate, with its shrine to the Virgin Mary, was a peaceful spot for reflection. I was fascinated by the Museum of Broken Relationships, a unique attraction that tells stories of lost love through everyday objects. As night fell, the gas lanterns were lit by hand, casting a warm glow over the streets. The Upper Town is also home to the Croatian Parliament and other government buildings, adding to its significance. Despite being a popular tourist area, it still felt authentic and lived-in, with locals going about their daily lives amidst the historic surroundings.
