Kolossi Castle, Limassol

As I approached Kolossi Castle, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence. This 14th-century Crusader stronghold stands tall and proud, a testament to Cyprus's rich history. The castle's sturdy stone walls and square tower rise impressively against the blue sky, inviting visitors to explore its secrets. Inside, I climbed the narrow staircase to the top, where I was rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside and distant Mediterranean. The castle's interior, though sparse, holds fascinating remnants of its past, including faded frescoes and intriguing architectural details. I was particularly captivated by the story of the castle's role in the production of Commandaria wine, one of the world's oldest named wines. The on-site museum provides excellent context, bringing the castle's history to life. Outside, the peaceful gardens offer a perfect spot for reflection. As I left, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe at the enduring legacy of this remarkable structure, a silent sentinel that has witnessed centuries of Cypriot history.
