Mt. Fuji 5th Station, Fujinomiya

As I stepped off the bus at Mt. Fuji 5th Station, I was immediately struck by the crisp mountain air and the breathtaking views. Situated at an elevation of 2,300 meters, this bustling hub serves as the gateway to the summit of Japan's iconic mountain. The area was buzzing with excitement as hikers prepared for their ascent, checking their gear and purchasing last-minute supplies from the souvenir shops. I explored the Komitake Shrine, a small but beautiful shrine that offers blessings for a safe climb. The surrounding landscape was otherworldly, with volcanic rock formations and sparse vegetation creating an almost lunar-like environment. Despite being halfway up the mountain, the 5th Station offers stunning panoramic views of the Fuji Five Lakes area and beyond. I was fascinated by the weather station on site, which provides crucial data for climbers. Even if you're not planning to hike to the summit, the 5th Station is well worth a visit for its unique atmosphere and the chance to experience Mt. Fuji up close. Just remember to bring a jacket – it can be quite chilly up here, even in summer!
