Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations, Oranjestad

Stepping into the Ayo and Casibari Rock Formations feels like entering a prehistoric wonderland. These massive diorite boulders, scattered across Aruba's arid landscape, are a testament to the island's geological marvels. As I approached Casibari, I was struck by the sheer size of the rocks, some towering over 30 feet high. Climbing to the top is an exhilarating experience, with steps and handrails guiding you safely. The panoramic views of the island from the summit are breathtaking, offering a 360-degree vista of Aruba's diverse terrain. At Ayo, the atmosphere is more serene and mystical. These rock formations hold significant cultural importance, with ancient Arawak petroglyphs etched into their surfaces. Walking among these silent sentinels, I felt a deep connection to the island's indigenous history. The unique shapes of the boulders, sculpted by wind and time, spark the imagination. It's easy to see why locals refer to some formations as the "Dragon's Mouth" or the "Turtle." Both sites offer excellent opportunities for photography, especially during the golden hours of sunrise and sunset when the rocks glow in warm hues. Remember to bring water and wear sturdy shoes – the terrain can be uneven, but the adventure is well worth it.
