Two Towers (Due Torri), Emilia-Romagna

Standing tall in the heart of Bologna, the Two Towers are an iconic symbol of the city's rich history. As I approached, I was struck by their impressive height and slight lean, reminiscent of Pisa's famous tower. The taller of the two, Asinelli Tower, stands at a staggering 97 meters and offers breathtaking views of Bologna for those brave enough to climb its 498 steps. Its companion, the shorter Garisenda Tower, leans at a more pronounced angle, adding to the duo's unique charm. Built in the 12th century by rival noble families, these towers once served as defensive structures and status symbols. Today, they're a testament to medieval engineering and a must-see attraction. The rough stone exterior and narrow windows transport you back in time, while the surrounding piazza buzzes with modern city life. As I ascended Asinelli, the wooden stairs creaked beneath my feet, adding to the sense of adventure. Reaching the top, I was rewarded with a panoramic view that took my breath away – terracotta roofs, winding streets, and distant hills stretched out before me. It's an experience that connects you to centuries of history and offers a new perspective on this beautiful Italian city.
