Uganda National Mosque, Kampala

As I approached the Uganda National Mosque, I was immediately struck by its impressive size and grandeur. The mosque, also known as Gaddafi National Mosque, dominates the Kampala skyline with its massive dome and towering minarets. Upon entering, I was amazed by the intricate Islamic architecture and the peaceful atmosphere within. The main prayer hall is simply breathtaking, with its ornate decorations and beautiful carpets. I was fortunate to climb one of the minarets, which offered panoramic views of Kampala that were truly unforgettable. The mosque can accommodate up to 15,000 worshippers, making it the largest in East Africa. What I found particularly interesting was learning about its history and how it came to be funded by former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Even as a non-Muslim visitor, I felt welcome and was able to explore most areas of the mosque. The serene gardens surrounding the complex provided a lovely spot for reflection. Overall, my visit to the Uganda National Mosque was a highlight of my time in Kampala, offering both cultural insights and architectural wonder.
