Taking the elevator to the viewing platform near the statue's feet was a thrilling experience. Up there, the wind whips around you as you gaze out over the city. The sanctuary itself is a place of quiet reflection, with a small chapel inside the base. What struck me most was the sense of peace that envelops you, despite being so close to the bustling city. The monument's history is fascinating too, inspired by the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro. It's not just a religious symbol, but a powerful cultural landmark that has watched over Lisbon since 1959. Whether you're religious or not, the Cristo Rei is a must-visit attraction that offers a unique perspective on Lisbon.
