Al Badiyah Mosque, Fujairah

Nestled in the emirate of Fujairah, Al Badiyah Mosque is a hidden gem that takes you back in time. As I approached this ancient Islamic landmark, I was struck by its simple yet captivating mud-brick architecture. Dating back to the 15th century, it's believed to be the oldest mosque in the UAE. The mosque's compact size surprised me, with room for only about 20 worshippers. Its four domed structures create a unique silhouette against the backdrop of rugged mountains. Inside, the prayer hall is beautifully austere, with thick walls keeping it cool even on scorching days. The mihrab, or prayer niche, is a masterpiece of simplicity. Outside, I explored the archaeological site surrounding the mosque, uncovering pottery shards and remnants of an old settlement. The nearby watchtower offers panoramic views of the coastline and mountains. As the sun began to set, the mosque took on a golden hue, creating a truly magical atmosphere. This off-the-beaten-path attraction offers a profound glimpse into the region's rich Islamic heritage and is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and culture seekers alike.
