The evening lighting ceremony is a must-see, with the faces dramatically illuminated against the night sky. The Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center provides excellent context with its museum and theater. Don't miss the Sculptor's Studio, where you can see tools and models used in the carving process. The surrounding Black Hills offer beautiful hiking trails and scenic drives. I was surprised by how much there is to do beyond just viewing the monument. Wildlife sightings are common, including mountain goats and bighorn sheep. Overall, Mount Rushmore is an unforgettable blend of natural beauty, artistic achievement, and American history.
