Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Brasov

Perched atop a rocky hill in Transylvania, Bran Castle is a sight to behold. As I approached, its imposing towers and red-tiled roofs emerged from the mist, creating an eerie atmosphere. This 14th-century fortress is famously associated with Bram Stoker's Dracula, though the connection is largely fictional. Inside, the castle's winding staircases and narrow corridors led me through a maze of rooms, each filled with antique furniture and artwork. The medieval armor and weapons on display were particularly impressive. From the castle's balcony, I enjoyed breathtaking views of the Carpathian Mountains. The exhibition on Romanian Queen Marie, who once owned the castle, offered fascinating insights into royal life. While the Dracula theme is played up for tourists, with some campy vampire-themed souvenirs in the gift shop, the castle's real history is equally captivating. I found myself imagining the many nobles and soldiers who had walked these stone halls over the centuries. Despite the crowds, there was an undeniable sense of mystery and romance about the place that made my visit truly unforgettable.
