Red Tower (Kizil Kule), Turkish Riviera

Standing tall on the Alanya coastline, the Red Tower (Kizil Kule) is a magnificent sight to behold. As I approached this octagonal structure, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence and rich red hue. Built in the 13th century, this 65-meter high tower served as a crucial defensive fortification for the city. Climbing the steep stairs to the top was quite a workout, but the panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Alanya Castle were absolutely worth it. The tower's interior houses a small museum showcasing its history and the maritime heritage of Alanya. What fascinated me most was the ingenious medieval plumbing system that collected rainwater for the garrison. The tower's walls, nearly 4 meters thick at the base, made me appreciate the architectural prowess of the past. As the sun began to set, the tower took on a magical glow, living up to its name. It's no wonder that the Red Tower has become the symbol of Alanya, appearing on the city's flag and coat of arms. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-visit for history buffs and anyone seeking breathtaking views of the Turkish Riviera.
