Stepping onto Busselton Jetty is like walking on water. This iconic Australian landmark stretches an incredible 1.8 kilometers into the Indian Ocean, making it the longest timber-piled jetty in the Southern Hemisphere. As I strolled along the wooden planks, the gentle sea breeze and rhythmic lapping of waves created a serene atmosphere. The jetty offers breathtaking views of Geographe Bay, with its crystal-clear turquoise waters and white sandy beaches. About halfway, I stopped at the Cultural Heritage Museum to learn about the jetty's fascinating 150-year history. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Underwater Observatory at the end of the jetty. Descending 8 meters below the surface, I found myself surrounded by a vibrant marine world. Colorful fish, coral formations, and even the occasional sea turtle glided past the viewing windows. For the more adventurous, there's snorkeling and diving available to get up close with the abundant sea life. The jetty train is a fun option for those who prefer not to walk the full length. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the water, I realized why Busselton Jetty is considered a must-visit attraction in Western Australia.
