Nestled in the picturesque village of Bsharri, Lebanon, the Gibran Museum is a captivating tribute to the renowned poet and artist Khalil Gibran. As I wandered through the rooms of this former monastery, I was immediately struck by the serene atmosphere that perfectly complements Gibran's contemplative works. The museum houses an impressive collection of over 440 original paintings and drawings, showcasing the artist's lesser-known talents as a visual artist. Each piece is thoughtfully displayed, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Gibran's unique vision. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the recreation of Gibran's New York studio, complete with his personal belongings and writing desk. It felt as if I had stepped into a moment frozen in time. The museum also features a comprehensive library of Gibran's literary works, including rare first editions and translations in various languages. Perhaps most moving is the small cave-like space where Gibran is buried, a simple yet powerful reminder of his enduring legacy. The stunning views of the Qadisha Valley from the museum's windows serve as a fitting backdrop to this celebration of one of Lebanon's most beloved cultural figures.
