Peneda-Gerês National Park (Parque Nacional Da Peneda-Gerês), Braga

Nestled in the northwest corner of Portugal, Peneda-Gerês National Park is a breathtaking natural wonder that left me in awe. As I hiked through its lush forests and rugged mountains, I felt completely immersed in the raw beauty of nature. The park's diverse landscapes range from cascading waterfalls and crystal-clear rivers to ancient oak forests and rocky peaks. I was lucky enough to spot some of the park's wildlife, including wild Garrano ponies grazing in meadows and golden eagles soaring overhead. The park is also home to traditional villages where time seems to stand still, offering a glimpse into Portugal's rural past. I particularly enjoyed exploring the Roman road that winds through the park, imagining the ancient travelers who once trod these same paths. The natural swimming pools formed by the rivers were a refreshing highlight, perfect for cooling off after a day of hiking. With its mix of natural wonders and cultural heritage, Peneda-Gerês truly feels like a hidden gem in Europe. It's a place where you can disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature in its purest form.
