Gwongeumseong Fortress, Sokcho

Perched atop a rugged mountain in Sokcho, South Korea, Gwongeumseong Fortress offers a breathtaking journey through time and nature. As I ascended via the cable car, the panoramic views of the East Sea and surrounding landscapes left me awestruck. The fortress ruins, dating back to the Goryeo Dynasty, exude an air of mystery and ancient grandeur. Exploring the weathered stone walls and imagining the battles once fought here was truly captivating. The hike around the fortress is moderately challenging but rewarding, with each turn revealing new vistas and hidden corners. I was particularly struck by the massive boulders precariously balanced atop the peak, seeming to defy gravity. The crisp mountain air and the gentle whisper of wind through the pine trees created a serene atmosphere, perfect for contemplation. As the sun began to set, the fortress was bathed in a golden glow, casting long shadows and creating a magical ambiance.
