Guadalest, Alicante

Nestled in the mountains of Costa Blanca, Guadalest is a hidden gem that took my breath away. As I approached, the sight of the village perched precariously on a pinnacle of rock was simply stunning. The Castle of San José, seemingly carved into the mountainside, dominates the skyline. To enter the old town, I passed through a narrow tunnel hewn from solid rock – an experience that felt like stepping back in time. The views from the top are absolutely spectacular, with panoramic vistas of the surrounding valley and reservoir. I was fascinated by the quirky museums, especially the Micro-Miniatures Museum with its incredible tiny artworks visible only through microscopes. The charming cobblestone streets are lined with artisan shops and cozy cafes, perfect for sampling local delicacies. Despite its small size, Guadalest packs in so much history and culture. It's a photographer's dream, with picture-perfect scenes around every corner. I found the locals to be warm and welcoming, proud to share their beautiful village with visitors. Guadalest truly feels like a slice of medieval Spain frozen in time, yet with all the amenities for a comfortable visit.
