Stepping into Aina Mahal is like entering a glittering dreamworld of 18th-century opulence. This "Palace of Mirrors" in Bhuj, Gujarat, is a testament to the artistic vision of Rao Lakhpatji. As I wandered through its halls, I was mesmerized by the intricate mirror work adorning every surface. The walls and ceilings shimmer with thousands of tiny mirrors, creating a dazzling play of light. The Fuvara Mahal, or Fountain Hall, is particularly stunning, with its central marble fountain surrounded by mirrors that seem to multiply its beauty infinitely. I was fascinated by the European influences evident in the decor, from Venetian chandeliers to Dutch tiles. The palace also houses an impressive collection of artifacts and weaponry, offering glimpses into the royal lifestyle of the time. Despite earthquake damage in 2001, careful restoration has preserved much of its original charm. As the sunlight danced across the mirrored surfaces, I felt transported to a bygone era of maharajas and courtly splendor. Aina Mahal is truly a hidden gem that shouldn't be missed by anyone visiting Gujarat.
