Etchmiadzin Cathedral, Armenia

Stepping into Etchmiadzin Cathedral is like traveling back in time. As the oldest cathedral in Armenia and possibly the world, its ancient stones whisper stories of centuries past. The moment I entered, I was struck by the sheer majesty of the interior. Intricate frescoes adorn the walls and ceilings, depicting biblical scenes and Armenian saints. The smell of incense lingers in the air, adding to the spiritual atmosphere. What truly captivated me was the ornate altar, adorned with gold and precious stones. It's easy to see why this is the spiritual heart of Armenia. Outside, the cathedral's imposing stone facade is a testament to Armenian architecture, with its distinctive conical dome. The surrounding gardens are peaceful, perfect for reflection. I was fortunate to witness a service, and the haunting sounds of Armenian chants echoing through the cathedral left an indelible impression. Don't miss the museum on-site, which houses religious relics, including what's said to be a piece of Noah's Ark.
