Los Haitises National Park, Samaná

Stepping into Los Haitises National Park feels like entering a lost world. The landscape is unlike anything I've ever seen, with towering limestone formations rising from the water like ancient sentinels. As we glided through the mangrove channels by boat, I was struck by the lush greenery and the symphony of bird calls echoing all around us. The park is a haven for diverse wildlife, and we were lucky enough to spot pelicans, frigatebirds, and even a manatee! The highlight of our trip was exploring the series of caves adorned with Taíno petroglyphs and pictographs, offering a fascinating glimpse into the island's pre-Columbian history. The park's unique ecosystem, formed by the karst topography, creates a mesmerizing interplay of land and water. We hiked through dense tropical forest, marveling at the variety of plant life and the occasional glimpse of colorful parrots flitting through the canopy. Los Haitises is truly a natural wonder, and its protected status ensures that future generations can experience its raw beauty and rich biodiversity.
