As I approached Bridalveil Fall, I was immediately struck by its ethereal beauty. The 620-foot waterfall cascades down the granite cliff, creating a misty veil that seems to dance in the breeze. It's one of the first sights that greets visitors entering Yosemite Valley, and it's easy to see why it's such a beloved landmark. The short trail leading to the base of the fall is an easy walk, surrounded by lush greenery and the sound of rushing water. As you get closer, the mist becomes more intense, and on windy days, you might find yourself getting a refreshing shower! The fall is spectacular year-round, but spring is particularly impressive when snowmelt increases the water flow. I was mesmerized by the way the sunlight caught the mist, creating rainbows that seemed to appear and disappear like magic. The viewing area at the base offers a great photo opportunity, but be prepared for your camera to get a bit wet! The fall got its name from the Ahwahneechee Native Americans, who called it "Pohono," meaning "Spirit of the Puffing Wind." Standing there, feeling the cool mist on my face and watching the water's hypnotic flow, I could certainly understand why they saw it as something spiritual.
