Lake Barrine, Cairns & the Tropical North

Nestled in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands, Lake Barrine is a natural wonder that took my breath away. This crystal-clear crater lake is surrounded by lush rainforest, creating a serene and picturesque setting. As I strolled along the shore, I was struck by the tranquil atmosphere and the diverse wildlife. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the lake cruise, where I learned about the area's fascinating geological history and spotted various bird species. The ancient twin kauri pines, estimated to be over 1000 years old, left me in awe of nature's resilience. After the cruise, I enjoyed a delicious Devonshire tea at the charming teahouse overlooking the lake. The walking track around the lake offered stunning views and a chance to immerse myself in the rainforest's beauty. I was particularly impressed by the clarity of the water, which allowed me to see fish swimming beneath the surface. Lake Barrine is truly a hidden gem, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and relaxation.
