Stepping into York Dungeon is like traveling back in time to the city's dark and mysterious past. As soon as you enter, you're immersed in a world of eerie sights, sounds, and smells that bring history to life in a thrilling way. The attraction takes you through various scenes from York's history, each more captivating than the last. Live actors in period costumes add an extra layer of authenticity and excitement to the experience. I was particularly impressed by the Viking invasion scene, where the booming voices and clashing of swords made me feel like I was right in the middle of the action. The plague doctor's chamber was equally chilling, with its gruesome props and the actor's convincing performance. Throughout the tour, you learn about real historical events and characters, but presented in a way that's both entertaining and slightly scary. The special effects and set designs are top-notch, creating a truly immersive atmosphere. While it can be intense at times, there's also plenty of humor mixed in, making it a fun experience for adults and older children alike. The tour lasts about 75 minutes, but time flies by as you're caught up in the stories. It's a unique and memorable way to explore York's history that I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting the city.
