The 7.5km journey takes you from Smithfield to Kuranda, with two stops along the way where you can explore boardwalks and scenic lookouts. The highlight for me was Red Peak Station, where I walked along the forest floor and learned about the ancient ferns and towering kauri pines from knowledgeable rangers. The descent into the Barron Gorge is breathtaking, offering panoramic views of the waterfall and rugged landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for colorful birds and butterflies flitting between the trees. At the Kuranda terminal, you can explore the quaint village or continue your adventure on the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway.
