Cayo Levantado (Bacardi Island), Las Terrenas

Stepping onto Cayo Levantado, I was instantly transported to paradise. This small, lush island off the coast of Samaná, Dominican Republic, is a true tropical gem. Crystal-clear turquoise waters lap against pristine white sand beaches, creating a postcard-perfect scene. The island's nickname, "Bacardi Island," comes from its appearance in old Bacardi rum commercials, and it's easy to see why it was chosen as the backdrop. I spent my day alternating between lounging on the beach and swimming in the warm Caribbean Sea. The water is so clear you can see colorful fish darting around your feet. For the more adventurous, there are opportunities for snorkeling and kayaking. The island's interior is a lush oasis of palm trees and tropical vegetation, perfect for a short nature walk. Local vendors offer refreshing coconut water and delicious Dominican cuisine. As the day wound down, I found myself at one of the beachfront bars, sipping a piña colada and watching the sunset. The vibrant colors reflecting off the water created a magical atmosphere that I'll never forget.
