Fort Cornwallis, George Town

As I stepped into Fort Cornwallis, I was immediately transported back in time. This star-shaped fortress, located in George Town, Penang, is a remarkable piece of Malaysian history. Built in the late 18th century by the British East India Company, it's named after Charles Cornwallis, a former Governor-General of India. The fort's imposing walls and strategic location overlooking the sea are impressive. Inside, I explored various historical exhibits, including old cannons, prison cells, and a chapel. The iconic lighthouse within the fort grounds is a must-see. What struck me most was the blend of British colonial architecture with tropical surroundings. The fort's well-maintained grounds offer a peaceful respite from the bustling city outside. I particularly enjoyed reading about the fort's role in Penang's development and its transformation from a military outpost to a cultural landmark. While not the largest fort I've visited, its historical significance and the stories it holds make it a fascinating attraction for history buffs and casual visitors alike.
