As I wandered through the ancient ruins of Priene, I was struck by the incredible preservation of this Hellenistic city. Nestled on a hillside overlooking the Meander River valley, Priene offers a glimpse into life in ancient Greece. The well-planned grid layout of the city is still visible, with wide streets intersecting at right angles. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the Temple of Athena, its massive columns standing tall against the blue sky. I was amazed by the detail in the carved friezes and the sheer scale of the structure. The theater, with its steep rows of seats, provided a perfect vantage point to take in the surrounding landscape. As I explored further, I discovered the remains of houses, shops, and public buildings, each telling a story of daily life in this once-thriving city. The agora, or marketplace, was particularly fascinating, with its colonnaded stoas and remnants of ancient shops. What struck me most about Priene was the sense of tranquility and the lack of crowds, allowing me to truly immerse myself in the history of this remarkable site.
