Perched on the southwestern tip of Portugal, Sagres is a place where land meets sea in dramatic fashion. As I stood atop the towering cliffs, the vast Atlantic stretched endlessly before me, its powerful waves crashing against the rugged coastline. The town itself exudes a laid-back surfer vibe, with golden beaches like Praia da Mareta beckoning sun-seekers and wave-riders alike. The star attraction is undoubtedly the Fortaleza de Sagres, a 15th-century fortress that offers breathtaking panoramic views. Inside, I explored the fascinating exhibits on Portugal's maritime history and the Age of Discoveries. Sagres is also famous for its spectacular sunsets, and I joined locals and tourists alike at the lighthouse to witness the sky ablaze with vibrant hues. The town's seafood restaurants are a treat, serving up the freshest catch of the day. I particularly enjoyed the grilled sardines, a local specialty. For nature lovers, the surrounding Costa Vicentina Natural Park offers excellent hiking trails and birdwatching opportunities. Sagres may be small, but its raw beauty and historical significance make it an unforgettable destination.
