Stepping into Ciudad Colonial feels like traveling back in time. This historic heart of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that captivates visitors with its rich colonial architecture and vibrant atmosphere. As I wandered through the cobblestone streets, I was struck by the well-preserved 16th-century buildings, including the stunning Catedral Primada de América, the first cathedral built in the New World. The area is compact and easily walkable, with each turn revealing charming plazas, colorful facades, and hidden courtyards. Calle El Conde, the main pedestrian street, buzzes with activity, lined with shops, cafes, and street performers. I loved exploring the Alcázar de Colón, once home to Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus. The museum offers fascinating insights into colonial life. As evening fell, the Plaza de España came alive with outdoor dining and live music, creating a magical ambiance.
