Stepping into Shanghai's Old City, or Nanshi, feels like traveling back in time. The narrow alleys and traditional architecture transport you to a bygone era, offering a stark contrast to the modern skyline just beyond. As I wandered through the winding lanes, the aroma of street food filled the air, tempting me at every turn. The Yu Garden is a must-see, with its intricate rockeries and serene ponds. I was mesmerized by the detailed carvings on the buildings and the vibrant colors of the traditional roofs. The bustling Yuyuan Bazaar surrounding the garden is a treasure trove of souvenirs and local crafts. I couldn't resist trying the famous xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) at one of the many teahouses. The mix of locals going about their daily lives and curious tourists creates a unique atmosphere. While parts of the area have been renovated, you can still find pockets of authentic old Shanghai if you venture off the main streets. It's a fascinating glimpse into the city's rich history and a perfect escape from the modern metropolis.
