Klis Fortress (Tvrdava Klis), Dalmatia

Perched high above Split, Klis Fortress is a breathtaking testament to Croatia's rich history. As I approached, the imposing stone walls seemed to grow out of the rugged mountainside, offering spectacular views of the Adriatic coastline. This medieval fortress, once a stronghold of Croatian kings, has witnessed centuries of battles and conquests. Walking through its gates, I felt transported back in time. I was particularly impressed by the small museum inside, showcasing artifacts and weapons from various periods. The fortress gained recent fame as a filming location for the hit TV series Game of Thrones, adding a touch of fantasy to its already magical atmosphere. Climbing to the highest point, I was rewarded with a panoramic vista that took my breath away. The contrast between the ancient stone and the modern city of Split below was striking. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the fortress, I understood why Klis has captivated visitors for centuries.
