Ring of Beara, Kenmare

The Ring of Beara is a hidden gem that took my breath away. This scenic drive along Ireland's rugged southwest coast offers stunning views of the wild Atlantic Ocean and the lush, green countryside. As I wound my way through charming villages like Glengarriff and Eyeries, I was struck by the warmth of the locals and the rich history of the area. The Healy Pass was a highlight, with its hairpin turns and panoramic vistas that made me feel on top of the world. I stumbled upon ancient stone circles and megalithic tombs, reminders of the area's prehistoric past. The colorful houses of Allihies, a former copper mining village, provided a perfect backdrop for photos. Dursey Island, accessible by Ireland's only cable car, offered a unique adventure and a chance to spot dolphins and whales. Throughout my journey, I found myself constantly pulling over to admire the ever-changing landscape, from dramatic cliffs to peaceful bays. The Ring of Beara may be less famous than its neighbor, the Ring of Kerry, but its untouched beauty and lack of crowds make it a truly special experience.
