Peles Castle (Castelul Peles), Transylvania

Nestled in the picturesque Carpathian Mountains, Peles Castle is a breathtaking masterpiece of Neo-Renaissance architecture. As I approached, I was immediately struck by its fairytale-like appearance, with its ornate turrets and intricate woodcarvings. The castle's 160 rooms are a treasure trove of European art and history, each more stunning than the last. I was particularly impressed by the Grand Armory Room, housing over 4,000 pieces of weaponry. The Florentine Room's exquisite leather walls and ceiling left me in awe. The castle's technological innovations were surprising, including central heating and a retractable glass roof in the Inner Courtyard. The surrounding gardens are equally magnificent, with statues and fountains complementing the natural beauty. King Carol I's vision in creating this summer retreat is evident in every detail, from the hand-painted stained glass windows to the Murano crystal chandeliers. Peles Castle offers a unique glimpse into royal life and 19th-century craftsmanship that's truly unforgettable.
