Guimarães Castle (Castelo de Guimarães), Braga

Perched atop a hill in the historic city of Guimarães, the Castelo de Guimarães is a magnificent testament to Portugal's rich medieval history. As I approached the castle, its imposing stone walls and sturdy towers immediately transported me back in time. This 10th-century fortress played a crucial role in the country's formation, earning Guimarães the title of "Birthplace of Portugal." Inside, I was captivated by the well-preserved architecture, including the central keep, which offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
