Enclosing Dike (Afsluitdijk), Hoorn

The Afsluitdijk is a marvel of Dutch engineering that left me in awe. This 32-kilometer-long causeway connects North Holland to Friesland, separating the Wadden Sea from the IJsselmeer. The Monument at the midpoint offers a chance to stretch your legs and learn about the dike's history. I was fascinated by the fish migration river, an innovative solution allowing fish to pass through the barrier. The Wadden Center at the Friesland end is a must-visit, with interactive exhibits explaining the region's unique ecosystem. As night fell, I watched a stunning sunset over the water, realizing why this place is a photographer's dream. The Afsluitdijk isn't just a road; it's a testament to the Dutch spirit of innovation and their ongoing battle with the sea.
