Nestled in the picturesque Guadarrama mountains, the Royal Palace of La Granja is a hidden gem that took my breath away. This 18th-century marvel, often called the "Versailles of Spain," boasts stunning Baroque architecture and meticulously manicured gardens. As I wandered through the opulent rooms, I was struck by the intricate frescoes and tapestries adorning the walls. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the spectacular fountain show in the gardens. The sight of water jets soaring high into the air, accompanied by classical music, was truly magical. I was fascinated to learn that the palace was built as a summer retreat for King Philip V, who was inspired by his childhood at Versailles. The Royal Glass Factory on the grounds is a must-visit, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship that made La Granja famous for its glassware. The surrounding forest provided a serene backdrop, perfect for a leisurely stroll after exploring the palace. I'd recommend allowing at least half a day to fully appreciate this royal masterpiece and its enchanting surroundings.
