Castillo San Felipe del Morro, San Juan

As I approached Castillo San Felipe del Morro, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence. This 16th-century citadel stands proudly on a rocky promontory, guarding the entrance to San Juan Bay. The fortress's massive walls, rising dramatically from the coastline, are a testament to Spanish colonial might. Walking through its corridors and ramparts, I felt transported back in time. The panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean from the upper levels are simply breathtaking. I was fascinated by the garitas (sentry boxes) perched on the walls, iconic symbols of Old San Juan. The central plaza, once used for military drills, now offers a peaceful spot to soak in the history. I was particularly intrigued by the lighthouse atop the fortress, still functional and adding to the site's allure. The museum within provides captivating insights into the fort's strategic importance and the lives of soldiers stationed here. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow on the ancient stones, I realized why El Morro is considered a must-visit landmark in Puerto Rico, blending historical significance with stunning natural beauty.
