Stepping into Baalbek is like traveling back in time to the height of the Roman Empire. This ancient city in Lebanon's Beqaa Valley is home to some of the most impressive Roman ruins I've ever seen. The Temple of Bacchus took my breath away with its towering columns and intricate stone carvings. It's remarkably well-preserved, giving you a real sense of its former grandeur. The nearby Temple of Jupiter is even more massive, though less intact. Its remaining six columns are a staggering 22 meters high! Walking through the Great Court, I was amazed by the sheer scale of the complex. The Stone of the Pregnant Woman in the nearby quarry is mind-boggling – this enormous block weighs over 1000 tons and was never even moved from where it was cut. The on-site museum offers fascinating insights into Baalbek's history, from Roman times through the Islamic period. As the sun set, the stones glowed golden, creating a magical atmosphere. It's no wonder Baalbek is a UNESCO World Heritage site – it truly is a marvel of ancient engineering and artistry.
